1902 - 1903. Hanoi Exhibition of 1902] Journey to Indochina,1902-1903. Folio album (28.5cm x 38.5cm), damaged binding (loose boards and spine). Approximately 620 views of an Indochina trip, including 237 of the 1902 Hanoi Exhibition. Gelatine-silver prints glued on plates, legends written in ink on the mounts. The author of this important corpus of images seems to be aware of the latest technical advances of his time. Framed very closely, his images have a very modern appearance, the photographer uses alternately a camera and a 'cinematograph' 7 years after the invention of the Lumière brothers. The Hanoi Exhibition Fair section, comprising 237 prints ranging from contact to panoramic views, faithfully reproduces the scale then given by the French colonial power to this event.
