Rubbed, headbands worn. New enlarged edition, illustrated with 2 folding maps. The author, who went to the Peninsula as tutor to the son of the President of Bourbonne (Parliament of Dijon), is not content to give a report of his personal journey but aims at a complete and most accurate description of contemporary Italy so that his work is a modern and useful guide. Abbot Richard has indeed documented himself extensively in order to carry out this political, economic and cultural study. Apart from the history of Italy and the classical descriptions of monuments and works of art, there are completely new elements, such as the quality of the air, food, roads, printing, courtesans, and collections. Two entire volumes are devoted to Rome. The work proceeds by cities and geographical regions. One adds to it: - VALERY (Antoine-claude Pasquin dit). Historical and literary travels in Italy, during the years 1826, 1827 and 1828, or the Italian Indicator. Brussels, Louis Hauman et compagnie, 1835. In-8 tan basane, smooth spine decorated. Some rubbing and spotting. - CANTU (C.), Histoire des Italiens. Paris, Firmin Didot frères, fils et cie, 1859. 12 vol. in-8 half dark blue basane, smooth spines threaded, title and tomaison gilt (period binding). Some rubbing and spotting.
