Doctor Souberbielle, who took part in the storming of the Bastille, was Robespierre's doctor and also Marie-Antoinette's doctor at the
of Marie-Antoinette in the Conciergerie. His political commitment led him to be one of the fifteen jurors of the
the Revolutionary Court under the Terror. Known for his work on stone surgery, he was
portrait by baron Gérard in 1819 (canvas, 65 x 54 cm, Bayeux, Baron-Gérard art and history museum) and
in 1833 by David d'Angers (Paris, Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts).
