The author of this important corpus of images seems to be aware of the latest technical advances of his time. Framed very closely, his images have a very modern appearance, the photographer uses alternately a camera and a 'cinematograph' 7 years after the invention of the Lumière brothers. The Hanoi Exhibition Fair section, comprising 237 prints ranging from contact to panoramic views, faithfully reproduces the scale then given by the French colonial power to this event.
