Rare pair of candlesticks with their enamelled copper bobeche painted with decoration on a royal blue background of friezes of flowers and bats and court scenes in a palace in cartouches on a white background. Interior of the bobèches with white background.
This experimental enamel technique imitates mother-of-pearl inlaid decorations, known as Burgundy lacquer. The technique is not new and still poorly mastered under the reign of H.M. Minh Mang. It will rarely be used thereafter. Mid 19th century. (Shards and wear). Height: 26.5 cm.
