1876 -1890. Voruz family. Photographic album of Japan. An album made by a family of industrialists from Nantes of Swiss origin during their stays in Japan between 1876 and 1890. They left to explore the Japanese archipelago at the time of the industrialization of the country, they probably accompanied a French delegation. A green half-leather binding (size 27x33 cm) containing more than 310 large format (average: 19x26 cm) and small format (average: 8.5x6 cm) albumen prints. All the photographs are captioned and located by their former owner. The vast majority of the albumen images were purchased by their owners from photographers in major Japanese cities. They were then glued into this binder in a more or less chronological fashion, while trying to keep a photographic theme per page. A very important part of the original pictures represent the Emperor (Meiji), the Empress (Sh?ken), the Prime Minister (Sanetomi Sanj?) the numerous members of the Japanese government, princes, ambassadors etc...
