Bed slope in a naturalist lampas, circa 1730-1740, lampas shaped polychrome silk green satin background decorated with flowering pomegranates and waterfall topped by a gnarled tree and a bird. Green taffeta piping around the edge, linen lining. Size: 42x140 cm. Collection of personal textile archives from the 16th to the 19th century of Mr Bernard Pansu, President of the Jules Pansu factory and Tissages De La Lys in Halluin, third generation at the helm. Passionate collector of textiles from the Renaissance to the Second Empire, Bernard Pansu has been immersed in the world of furnishing textiles since his youth. Indeed, the PANSU factory, created by his great-grandfather Jules Pansu in 1878, is renowned for its wall tapestries created by the best workers in France and still woven today in Halluin in Flanders, in the great French tradition. The ensemble presented at the sale gathers mainly silks coming from court dresses, liturgical ornaments, seat trimmings and hangings. These archival documents of all sizes, glued on cardboard for the most part, represented for the textile factories a sort of library offering an infinite variety of motifs and colours serving as inspiration for the designers and weavers for new creations. For the curious, the more than 300 documents on display form a complete panorama of the history of taste in interior decoration and fashion over nearly 500 years.
