Pair of diamond-shaped porcelain plates decorated with caravel in central medallion. Wing with drape whose folds discover flowered bouquets. A covered porcelain bowl decorated on one side with the great seal of the United States of America and on the other side with birds in conches and flowers. China, Compagnie des Indes, late 18th century Height: 24 cm. [Great Seal of the United States of America. Argent, 6 vergettes gules, on a chief azure, a bald eagle with outstretched wings holding an olive branch in one claw and thirteen arrows in the other. The bird is surmounted by thirteen fallen stars, a reference to the original thirteen states. The banner "E Pluribus Unum" (literally "From many, one") recalls the original meeting of the 13 states.
