Oxy-etheric saturation lamp "Multi-saturator Securitas" in c - Lot 146
Oxy-etheric saturation lamp "Multi-saturator Securitas" in copper and lacquered brass, numbered 187. About 1894-1897 Height: 12 cm. Length: 22 cm. Depth: 11 cm. This type of saturator in cylindrical tank was developed by Alfred Molteni from 1894. At that time, Molteni presented his device working with a mixture of ether or gasoline vapor and oxygen to produce an intense light by heating lime stick to 1500 degrees, allowing the projection of films. The new lamp named "securitas" will be used in the first projections of films, mainly in theaters with more than 200 seats. Unfortunately, this type of technology was dangerous and caused fires like the one on May 4, 1897 at the Bazar de la Charité, which killed 117 people. Molenti left his firm in 1900 to Radiguet and Massiot who also had great success afterwards.
