Bone vanity that could represent an allegory of the "death of Adonis hunting a boar", posed on an entablature veneered in red tortoiseshell. Germany 17th - 18th century. Height 23 cm high (Old restoration) Taken from Ovid's Metamorphoses and the loves of the Gods, it is possible that it is the God Ares himself, another lover of Aphrodite, who, jealous of his rival, would have taken the appearance of a boar to take revenge on his rival. This treatment is similar to a marble sculpture made by the Italian sculptor Giuseppe Mazzuoli around 1710 "the death of adonis" exhibited at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.
