Charles SCHNEIDER (1881-1953), known as CHARDER, for LE VERR - Lot 213
Charles SCHNEIDER (1881-1953), known as CHARDER, for LE VERRE FRANÇAIS Model " Water lilies ". Large vase of baluster form with open neck in multi-layered glass. Rests on a circular base in doucine. Engraved decoration in cameo with the acid of geometrical foliages purple marmorated brilliant on bottom satiny blue jaspé in gradation. Signed in the body of the vase. Engraved with the point at the base. Between 1929 and 1933. Height : 35,4 cm. Diameter : 13,5 cm. Provenance : French private collection. Registered on October 22, 1918, the brand "Le Verre Français" evolves rapidly until 1933 in order to respond to a growing international success. During this period, the factory innovated both technically and ornamentally in the wake of the rise of the "1925 style" or "Art Deco". Indeed, models are designed for export from 1920, and marketed in Brussels in the store "De Backer", or in New York in the signs "Ovington" and "Altman and C°". The association of the signature "Charder" with that of "Verre Français" covers the short period 1929-1933. Resulting from the contraction of "Charles" and "Schneider", the signature "Charder" appears around 1927, and resonates as an expression from the tradition of fire arts of the Nancy School. A talented master glassmaker, Charles Schneider was trained at the Daum factory from 1897-1898, where he became artistic director in 1905. Available in several sizes and shapes, the "Water Lilies" model of our vase is part of the manufactured glassware produced in the workshops of Epinay-sur-Seine, and sold in the showroom then located at 14, rue de Paradis in Paris.
