LÊ THY (1919-1961). - Lot 231
LÊ THY (1919-1961). School of Fine Arts of Indochina. The Bay of Along. Polychrome and gilded lacquered wood panel signed in the lower right corner. The work was most probably realized in the period following the Japanese coup de force of March and the Revolution of August 1945. Indeed, following the closure of the Indochina School of Fine Arts in which he studied under Nam Son, Lê Thy returned to work in Saigon and frequented the workshops of Thu Dau Mot. The lacquers he produced were marked by a simplification of forms and an almost Art Deco inspiration. This insipiration contrasts with the classic gold backgrounds of his early work. From 1947 he became one of the most prominent master lacquerers in South Vietnam. Indochina, around 1950. Dimensions: 50x70,5.
