Dong Son bell in bronze with an excavation patina on a base, - Lot 338
Dong Son bell in bronze with an excavation patina on a base, round in shape with a buffalo head and geometric motifs, the cylindrical socket allowing its suspension. Possibly produced in the region of Battambang in present-day Cambodia. The Dong Son culture, named after a village in North Vietnam where excavations in 1924 brought to light a group of Bronze Age remains, groups together various cultures of the Red River basin that emerged during the first millennium. Marking the apogee of the bronze civilization of this region, its expansion will be definitively curbed by the annexation of its territory under the Han in 111 BC. Vietnam, Dong Son culture, 1st millennium B.C. Height: 11 cm.
