Alexis Vassilievitch HANZEN known as Alexis de HANZEN (1876-1937). French-flagged three-master sailing on a rough sea off a coast. Oil on canvas signed, localized and dated lower right and on the reverse Alexis de Hanzen Paris 1907. It is preserved in a gilded wood frame with blackened groove, bearing a label on the stretcher. Good condition. Dimensions : 60 x 73 cm. Total dimensions : 68 x 81.5 cm. Alexis Vassilievitch Hanzen (born January 31, 1876 in Odessa, died October 19, 1937 in Dubrovnik), grandson of the famous Ivan Constantinovich Aivazovski (1817-1900), was a marine painter, teacher, collector and official artist of the Russian Ministry of the Sea. He was awarded the Order of Saint Anne 3rd class and the Order of Saint Stanislas 3rd and 2nd class. He traveled in Germany, Italy and France. He was a member of numerous foreign art societies, including the Société des Artistes Russes de Paris. During his lifetime, it is estimated that he produced over 3,000 canvases, as well as drawings and watercolors. Expert : Odeon Fine Art SAS - Edgar CLIN.
