In 1957, publisher Joseph Foret commissioned Salvador Dali (1904-1989) to create an illustrative set for the reprint of the famous work "Don Quixote" by Michel de Cervantes (1547-1616). Dali experimented with an unusual technique that would later become popular. Instead of pencil and paint, Dali used an air gun filled with ink.
