Australia - Tasmania. - Lot 63
Australia - Tasmania.
Suite of three silver bronze medals and five bronze medals issued in 1988 for the Australian bicentenary by the Museum of Tasmania.
Diameter: 5.5cm.
This medal was issued to commemorate Australia's bicentenary in 1988. The Tasmanian Teachers Credit Union sponsored the silver room at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, which houses a genuine tetradrachm. The ancient Athenian owl design was chosen, according to a museum spokesman, for its historical interest and symbolism. The obverse is a playful interpretation of this ancient symbol of wisdom.
Tasmania is an Australian state in the south of the Australian continent.
