1947.
Set of dactilographed documents from the Comité de l'Empire Français on political upheavals in Indochina in the 1940s, including:
- A study of the Viet-Nam Quoc Dan Dang and Dong Minh Hoi parties by Paul Chauvet dated September 1946 and sent to the Comité de l'Indochine in confidence on April 14, 1947. Divided into four parts, the study identifies the reasons for and history of the emergence of Vietnamese nationalist parties up to the agreement of March 6, 1945. It concludes with a discussion of the uncertain future of these parties, while evoking with a certain clairvoyance the possibilities emerging for the Viet Minh party in particular, and the conditions under which their existence was compatible with the French wishes of the period.
Paul Chauvet was a civil service administrator in Indochina in 1927, then from 1942 to 1944, he headed up political affairs in the General Government, before serving as Senior Resident in Hanoi, Tonkin, from 1944 to 1945. He is also known for his involvement in the development of Hanoi's art schools: it was he who appointed Évariste Jonchère as director of the institution.
- Three confidential documents from the Comité de l'Indochine et des Intérêts français en Extrême-Orient (Indochina and French Interests in the Far East Committee) relating to the "Indochinese political problem", drafted by Paul Bernard following the debates at the Assemblée Nationale (French National Assembly) concerning the evolution of the agreements of March 6, 1946, under which France recognized Vietnam's independence within the French Union. Officer to the Governor General of Indochina in 1923, Paul Bernard is also the author of several works on the economic problems encountered in the region during the 1930s,
