Haifong, Wednesday, January 11, 1922 - Lot 14
Haifong, Wednesday, January 11, 1922
Maréchal Joffre inaugurates the Maréchal Joffre Bridge.
A set of over 30 vintage silver prints.
As part of his world tour, Marshal Joffre was lavishly welcomed in Indochina in December 1921 and January 1922. He was received not only as the hero of the Great War, but also as one of the founding members of French Indochina, since he was responsible for developing the defense of the territory between 1885 and 1888. Before setting sail for Japan aboard the "Montcalm", he inaugurated a bridge bearing his name, decked out in his honour, which he crossed first after cutting the tricolour ribbon that crossed it. Successful celebrations were held in his honor.
Dimensions: 15x11.5 cm and 12.5x17 cm.
(Folds, some tears).
Also included:
Two postcards showing General Joffre during the First World War.
