According to an iconography that spread widely from the end of the 15th century, this patron saint of plague and epidemics is depicted as a martyr, riddled with arrows (now missing), hands tied behind his back, in a slightly contrapposto pose suggested by the left leg crossed in front of the right. The schematic style, guilloche background and framing are easily related to the serial production of the 15th century in northern France and the southern Netherlands.
