Durga, India, Gupta period 6th-7th century. Terracotta. The goddess stands in tribhanga pose, wearing a horizontally striped skirt, pearl necklace, large earrings and turban. She holds a trisula against one of her left arms. Despite the missing arms and feet, the sculpture retains much of its power and authority: the body is well poised, the face expressive with its almond-shaped eyes and fleshy mouth characteristic of the period. Height: 68 cm. (Visible chips, probable restorations).
