Pair of polished and patinated front horns of Rhinocerotidae - Lot 223
Pair of polished and patinated front horns of Rhinocerotidaes unicornis d'Inde (Rhinoceros Unicornis).
Exceptional polishing and enhancement of the important nodosities.
Typical of workshops in Southeast Asia, particularly India.
The upper part of the horns reveals the original matrix of the horn (linear striations).
Nodosities are natural bulges found on older rhinoceros specimens. They sometimes develop as the animal ages. These natural curiosities can only be enhanced by polishing and sculpting.
The bases bear the marks of stamps numbered "I" and "II", testifying to the presence of these horns in a former collection.
Height: 18.5 cm and 16.5 cm.
Weight: 723.3 g and 669.5 g.
Provenance: Collection of Monsieur B. Military officer stationed in Indochina - Saigon.
