Palden Lamo. China, Qing dynasty, 19th century. Gilded copper alloy, turquoise. Mounted on a mule, the deity Shri Devi crosses a sea of blood. With her left hand, she brings a kapala to her mouth, while her outstretched right hand makes the gesture of teaching. She sits on human skin and wears a tiger-skin apron. A snake and a garland of severed heads around her neck. Height: 17 cm. Provenance: Former Claude de Marteau collection, acquired circa 1970. Bonhams Hong Kong, October 6, 2023, LOT 47.
