Fang Ding covered perfume burner, China, Qing dynasty, 18th- - Lot 263
Fang Ding covered perfume burner, China, Qing dynasty, 18th-19th century. Pale green jade. The perfume burner is directly inspired by ancient Fang Ding ritual bronzes. The hollowed-out tubular legs are decorated with archaic cross-hairs, often ending in the heads of fantastical animals. The two handles feature dragon heads holding a detached ring. The lid is topped by a magnificent dragon, coiled around itself, its body covered in scales, its four pastes set at the corners. The impressive head, with its mouth wide open, displays menacing fangs. Dimensions: 16x17 cm. Provenance: family collection, acquired circa 1970.
