Famille Rose enameled porcelain plate decorated with a court - Lot 288
Famille Rose enameled porcelain plate decorated with a court scene depicting a tribute ceremony. On two registers richly decorated with exactly 100 figures, the scene is composed entirely of women who have come to pay their respects to the Empress. The lower register features 37 figures at the entrance to a first pavilion, some bringing offerings, others receiving the ruyi scepter as a gift. The upper register features a central interior scene showing the empress surrounded by two attendants holding fans and surrounded by her retinue. The side sections are finely painted with courtesans, go players, musicians and ladies of quality conversing around a painting. The number of figures on this plaque is no coincidence; the number 100 is auspicious and may refer to the childbirth ceremony taking place on the 100th day following the birth of the newborn. A banquet is then held in the presence of all family members. China, 19th century. Dimensions: 37.6x31.4 cm. (Wear).
