Double-sided altar. Ming China (1368-1644). - Lot 300
Double-sided altar. Ming China (1368-1644). Four-color glazed stoneware. The deities are presented in a rocky setting surmounted by a pagoda roof. On one side, Avalokiteshavra is seated in royal ease, flanked by his two acolytes Shancai and Longnu, while the other side is occupied by Vairocana, hands clasped in the abhisekana gesture. The four colors: yellow, violet, blue and green are judiciously arranged to create contrasts and make the complex composition perfectly legible. Height: 73 cm. (Good condition, possible restorations).
