WORKSHOP OF TINGQUA GUAN LIANCHANG (1809-1870). - Lot 334
WORKSHOP OF TINGQUA GUAN LIANCHANG (1809-1870). Reunion of two paintings known as "china trade paintings" in their original black and gold lacquered wood frames. The first view depicting an interior scene embellished with two vertical panels inscribed with a distich by the painter and calligrapher Wang Wenzhi (1730-1802). 得好友来如对月 有奇書讀勝看花 or "Having a good friend is like looking at the moon, reading a wonderful book is better than contemplating flowers". The second view depicts a gallant scene in a garden that can most likely be identified as the Huadiwan Fuyin 花地湾馥荫园, a Lignan-style garden typical of those that could be found in Canton in the 18th and 19th centuries and widely represented in paintings for export. China for export, Canton (Guangzhou) workshops, early 19th century. Dimensions: 58x44 cm.
