*A pair of Annamite mandarin "guom" ceremonial sabers, the wooden scabbard decorated with mother-of-pearl inlays of mandarin ducks among lotuses and flowering branches populated with birds, set off by three 800°/°° silver appliques embossed and chased with scrolls on an amati background. The elephant ivory handle is decorated with an incised frieze enhanced with ink, the pommel with chimera head, the curved hilt in bronze nielloed with silver. The steel blade is incised with stylized foliage motifs.
Indochina, Court of Hué, late 19th century.
