VICTOR TARDIEU (1870-1937). - Lot 104
VICTOR TARDIEU (1870-1937). Director of the Indochina School of Fine Arts from 1925 to 1937. Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Lyon, Prix de l'Indochine in 1920. Riverside camp scene. Circa 1914. Framed oil on panel, unsigned. Circa 1910-1920. Dimensions: 13,8x18 cm. Provenance: Lucien and Denise Scheler. Lucien Scheler, who rubbed shoulders with Montparnasse artists in the 1920s, was a friend of Jean Tardieu, from whom he would have received this planchette. In the family by descent. During the Great War, Tardieu produced a series of planchettes for the Duchess of Sutherland, who had set up a camp hospital. The artist donated a number of these planchettes, now on display at the Florence Nightingale Museum in London. We would like to thank Madame Alix Turolla-Tardieu, the artist's legal successor, for the biographical details she was able to provide.
