MAI TRUNG THU known as MAI THU (1906-1980). Indochina School of Fine Arts. Class of 1930. The little readers. Framed painting on silk, signed and dated 1960 lower right. Stamped by the artist. In its original marie-louise created by the artist himself. Total dimensions: 36x52.3 cm. Size of composition alone: 21x37.5 cm. (Small piton hole in the upper part of the marie-louise). As soon as he settled in France, and particularly from the 60s onwards, Maï-Thu devoted a large part of his work to the world of childhood. The subject, often in small format, always evokes a world apart, the world of play in which young children are absorbed, far removed from the hustle and bustle of adult life. This work is also a reminder of the care Atiste takes with his framing, which reinforces the soft, atmospheric depth of his work.
