Gold and red lacquered bronze statue of Wei Tuo Pusa (Skanda). The divinity is depicted full-length, dressed in general's armor, on a plinth decorated with clouds from which a dragon emerges. His face is serene, his right hand resting on the pommel of a straight sword, his left hand on his waist. Traditionally depicted in arms, he is the guardian and protector of Buddhist teachings, as well as the head of the twenty-four celestial guardians (listed in the Golden Light Sutra). South China, late Ming period, 17th century. Height: 31 cm. (Wear and slight lack of lacquer).
