Hwan-Gi KIM (1913-1974). Composition featuring birds on a blue background. Lithograph on paper, accompanied by a Korean poem inscribed on a cardboard strip: "Marchons ensemble, marchons, marchons" ("Let's walk together, let's walk, let's walk"). Size : 44 x 36 cm. Comment : Hwan-Gi Kim (1913-1974) was a Korean painter who pioneered abstract art in Korea. Trained at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in the 1930s, he was initially drawn to the figurative style before turning to abstraction. In 1948, he founded the "Hangeul" artists' collective, a group that advocated a break with the artistic activity of the colonial period.
