Red sandstone divinity head, medieval style from Java. Wearing a tiara with two triangular elements, the head is surmounted by a coiled bun. Beautiful, gentle expression. Relief created in the early 20th century, probably inspired by Java medieval sculpture. It has been kept in the same family since the 1930s. Indonesia, early 20th century. Height: 23.5 cm. Provenance: André Michel, Head of the Fraud Department in Saigon, author of a novel about Indochina, "L'Or Noir" in 1931. See photograph of the sculpture in the family apartment.
