Clock depicting a religious monument in a mountain landscape. Enameled dial inscribed in the bell tower and showing the hours in Roman numerals. The back of the canvas bears the stamp of "Maison Alphonse Giroux et Cie. À Paris. 7, rue du Coq-Saint-Honoré". Mid-19th century. Dimensions : 53 x 63 cm. (Restorations). François-Simon-Alphonse Giroux (?-1848), a famous Parisian merchant and manufacturer of tabletterie, founded his business around 1799 at 7, rue du Coq-Saint-Honoré. He sold novelty items and stationery, then cabinetmaking from 1834, under the name Alphonse Giroux. Taken over in 1838 by his sons Alphonse-Gustave (1810-1886) and André (1801-1879) under the name "Alphonse Giroux et Cie", the business moved to 43, boulevard des Capucines in 1857.
