Baron Karl REILLE (1886-1975). - Lot 148
Baron Karl REILLE (1886-1975). L'étang de la Reine. Oil on canvas, signed lower left and dated 1911 (?). Dimensions: 92x73 cm. (Damage, missing parts and restorations). Specializing in painting horses and hunting, Karl Reille was the great-grandson of Général d'Empire Honoré REILLE (1775-1860), and son of Victor REILLE (1851-1917), who was Chairman of Saint Gobain. His family owned the Domaine de Baudry, where Karl Reille hunted deer. He painted his hunting scenes in watercolor, gouache or oil, with admirable finesse, having had no artistic training apart from his apprenticeship as an engineer at the École des ponts et chaussées.
