Charles MANCIET (1874-1963). - Lot 156
Charles MANCIET (1874-1963). Nude at the alcove. Oil on canvas, signed lower left. Size : 54x81 cm. A student of the painter Jules LEFEBVRE (1834-1912), who taught at the Beaux-Arts de Paris and the Académie Julian, Charles Manciet inherited his fine, academic touch. Manciet made a name for himself as an Orientalist painter around 1900, depicting the streets and scenes of Algerian life through cameo colors and skilfully studied compositions. A recognized artist during his lifetime, he was a member of the Salon des Artistes Français, curator at the Musée de Bordeaux and Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur.
