Arne JACOBSEN (1902-1971) for Louis Poulsen. - Lot 218
Arne JACOBSEN (1902-1971) for Louis Poulsen. Living-room lamp, "AJ" model, in partially black-lacquered metal. Adjustable shade with asymmetrical reflector. Tubular shaft. Elliptical base with openwork circular motif. Numbered below the base B1 / LB 254. Made in Denmark" label inside the shade. Electrified. Circa 1965. Height: 124.5 cm. Base width: 27.5 cm. (Lacking the rear part of the lampshade, some wear from use, slight rubbing and small chips). Created in 1960 for the legendary SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, the "AJ" model illustrates Arne Jacobsen's functional, modernist aesthetic. The slender silhouette of the shaft, the subtly oblique geometry of the shade and the elegant simplicity of the lines make it one of the major icons of twentieth-century Danish design.
