1928 MARECHAL LYAUTEY. Letters from Tonkin. Illustrations by Jean BOUCHAUD. Paris, Les Éditions nationales, 1928. Two paperback volumes. The first has 200 pages, the second 438. Illustrated edition featuring numerous watercolors reproduced in facsimile and printed by D. Jacomet. First volume numbered 238 of 500 copies on Arches vellum. Dimensions: 28.5x23 cm. Copies partially untrimmed. (Fragile paperbacks, a few rare creases and stains). Jean Bouchaud developed his talent as an illustrator of novels (Claude Farrère’s *Fumée d’Opium*) and articles published in the famous weekly *L’Illustration* (notably “An Annamite Tourist in Yunnan”). Lyautey—whom he had met in Morocco and who served as Commissioner General of the 1931 Exposition—entrusted him with the painting section of the Exposition, specifically the four monumental decorative panels for the Cité des Informations.
