BE KY (1938) Set of 4 framed ink-on-silk prints, signed in the lower right corner - Two elegant women in áo dài. Dimensions: 39x28.5 cm - The Scholar. Dimensions: 39x28.5 cm - Street Food. Dimensions: 28.5x39 cm - The Little Buffalo Herders. Dimensions: 28.5 x 39 cm Here we find the pictorial world so dear to the artist, who tirelessly captured, with nostalgia and tenderness, street scenes and vignettes of everyday life. The bold yet airy lines lend these spontaneous drawings a true sense of poetry. Born in 1938 in Hai Duong and orphaned at a very young age, Be Ky grew up in a province in northern Indochina. Despite difficult living conditions, she quickly learned to draw and loved doing so. She was adopted by the Haiphong portrait artist Tran Dac, who further introduced her to the art of painting. She has exhibited her works in Saigon since 1957 and now lives in the United States.
