A NICE SURPRISE FOR LUONG XUAN NHI

Lot 136, a watercolor on paper by Luong Xuan Nhi (1913-2006), a student of Tran Van Can and part of the class of 1937 at the prestigious Indochina School of Fine Arts, exceeded all expectations at the auction organized by Lynda Trouvé on September 30, 2025. Estimated at between €4,000 and €6,000, the work depicting a Rice Field Scenery was finally sold for €18,452 including fees, more than double its high estimate.

This watercolor, signed in the lower right corner and preserved in its original silk passe-partout, comes from the collection of Mr. X, a figure who has been committed in the 1970s to promoting Vietnamese culture and supporting Vietnamese artists.

This exceptional result confirms the growing enthusiasm for the works of artists trained at the Indochina School of Fine Arts, of whom Luong Xuan Nhi is a lesser-known representative than his peers Le Pho or Mai Thu, but equally talented and whose rarer works on the market are also sought after.
