Restoration - Conservateur (Le). [Paris, Le Normant fils, 1818-1820. 78 issues in 6 vol. in-8, half-havane with corners, smooth threaded spine, green title and tomaison (period binding). Covers worn, paper missing from boards, leather missing from spine of vol. 6, a few small scattered foxing and spotting. Complete collection of 78 issues. Le Conservateur was published from October 1818 to March 1820, after the fall of Decazes and the re-establishment of censorship. With the help of Monsieur, the king's brother, who provided the initial funding, ten personalities founded Le Conservateur: Bruges, Talaru, Polignac, Vitrolles, Mathieu de Montmorency, Fiévée, Villèle, Castelbajac, Trouvé and Lamennais. Although Chateaubriand was not one of the founders, contrary to legend, he was the standard-bearer, the true intellectual leader of Le Conservateur and his name will remain permanently linked to its publication.
