1932 HUONG KI. Official photographer of the court in Hanoi The return of H.M. Bao Daï to Indochina. The Emperor surveys his kingdom from Annam to Tonkin, to meet his subjects. Album of photographs titled "Respectful homage of the house Huong Ky Photo to Mr. The Minister of National Education in memory of the trip of H.M BAO DAI in Tonkin", the cover with imperial colors with decoration of dragons of Annam among the clouds. Extremely rare oblong album from the Huong Ky Photo house containing more than 400 photographs, including several large format ones, on the visit of H.M. Bao Dai to Tonkin, including several shots taken at the Indochina School of Fine Arts in the company of Victor Tardieu, founder of the institution, and the Governor General of Indochina, Pierre Pasquier. The exceptional quality of these photographs and their diversity make this set a unique testimony of the event of which several pictures are completely unpublished. Dimensions of the album: 28x38 cm. Hardback album, Italian format (Dimensions: 37x27,5 cm) of about 428 silver prints pasted (Most of them in 8,5x13,5 cm). Cover decorated with paper C of imperial decree in Sino-Vietnamese characters and titled Respectful homage of the Maions Huong Ky To Mr. the Minister of the National Education In memory of the trip of S.M Bao Daï in Tonkin. Cotton cord with red and gold imperial colors. After 9 years of absence during which the young Emperor perfected his education in Paris under the tutelage of Mr. Charles, on September 8, 1932, H.M. Bao Daï docked in the roadstead of Tourane on board the colonial Aviso Dumont d'Urville. He returned to Indochina to take up his duties as Emperor and toured his Kingdom, visiting Hue and then Tonkin. This was an opportunity for the government of the Third Republic to organize festivities and ceremonies with great pomp. Arrival aboard the Aviso Colonial "Dumont d'Urville"; reception by the General Staff, military review in the presence of Governor Pasquier, popular gatherings, horse races, delegation of scouts, visits to schools, craftsmen's workshops, Tonkinese distillery company, athletic competitions, magistrates, visit to the School of Fine Arts in the presence of its director Victor Tardieu, shops in Hanoi, regional fair... Most of the unpublished photos and rare testimony of the School of Fine Arts destroyed by the bombings in 1942. In 1932, the government of Edouard Herriot decided to rename public instruction "national education". Anatole de Monzie was the first minister to bear this new title. (Photos in good condition despite some damaged and pencilled ones).
