Alix AYMÉ (1894-1989). Teacher at the School... - Lot 112 - Lynda Trouvé
Alix AYMÉ (1894-1989). Teacher at the School of Fine Arts of Indochina. Double portrait of Laotian children. Drawing with graphite, pastel and Indian ink on framed paper, signed and located "Luang Prabang" in the lower left corner. Dimensions: 44 x 27 cm. (Small accidents in the bottom of the sheet). The work is part of the Laotian period of Alix Aymé. At the time, the artist was commissioned by France to create the decor for the future Laos pavilion at the 1931 colonial exhibition. She was also commissioned by the colonial administration to create large frescoes in the new royal palace in Luang Prabang. Having become close to the family of King Sisavang Vong, Alix Aymé also undertook several expeditions to the most remote regions of the small kingdom, expeditions during which she carried out ethnographic work, notably sketching the 41 canvases that would make up the decor of the pavilion at the colonial exhibition. The fineness of the details of this work reflects the artist's ambition to transcribe on paper the anthropological and ethnographic reality of the country.
