André DELACROIX (1878-1934). School of Fine... - Lot 120 - Lynda Trouvé
André DELACROIX (1878-1934). School of Fine Arts of Algiers around 1899. Angkor Wat at dusk. Oil on canvas titled Interior courtyard of the temple of Angkor Wat, signed and dated on the reverse side on the canvas and the frame March 16 and 17, 1916. Dimensions: 61x37,5 cm. (Accidents, lacks and restorations). After numerous trips throughout the colonial empire, André Delacroix spent a long time in Tonkin and Cambodia, during which time he produced numerous works that were vigorously acclaimed by the critics. He exhibited regularly at the annual Hanoi Salon between 1911 and 1913 and was even awarded an honorary distinction by H.M. the Emperor of Annam Duy Tân. Celebrated in particular for his works dedicated to the temples of Angkor, these are however rare on the market. Indeed, a large part of his work done in Pnom Penh was destroyed during the sinking of the Magellan, torpedoed in 1917. This 1916 work is therefore a rare testimony to the production of this artist in Cambodia.
